Writing: Not All Sunshine & Rainbows

Writing can be taxing on anyone. Although it seems simple, writing takes a lot of time and effort to get it right. Take me for example, I spend 90% of my time typing away on the very keyboard assisting me in this piece today. With my writings here on my site, on Medium.com and all of my freelancing work. There hasn’t been a day since December 2021 that I have not written at least 500+ words. To me, it’s euphoric. To others… a nightmare.

In short: It’s not all sunshine, rainbows and unicorn farts over here!

When you think about all of the learning, research, effort, thought and creativity it takes to make multiple written articles per day, per week or per year; it’s no wonder there are so many individuals that try their hand at writing and call it quits shortly after.

My fellow writers, we are a rare breed. A breed that should be nurtured and praised. It’s not as easy as it looks and does not gain us all the lavish lifestyle we see in the movie She Devil, where Mary Fischer has her palace by the sea. No, we’re just your average everyday people, trying to bring art and inspiration to the masses.

And one day, we will.

I don’t fancy myself a master of the craft. In fact, I often belittle my work in the worst of ways. I am always my harshest critic. That’s pretty common among writers… at least I’m not alone. With that being said, I consider myself to be good at what I do and enjoy it so much… I dedicated my life to it. Threw away all income possibilities to follow my dream. My acquaintances consider me idiotic, but you get it right? It’s not about the money, although income is a nice bonus. It’s about the freedom, the creativity, THE ART. It’s about the possibilities that you have at your disposal that only other writers will understand. t’s endless.

Let’s take that in for a moment. Endless possibilities, freedom and the ability to allow your creativity to flow through you on a daily basis with no one to belittle your ideas (aside from yourself, of course). That, my dear readers, is what makes us rich. Like now for instance, you are sitting there on your phone, tablet or computer taking in all I’ve written here today. Possibly have already decided to or have been thinking of taking that large leap into the pool of writers you find here on the internet and can in vision the future with that as your profession.

Has it given you a warm fuzzy feeling?

Or maybe, you hated this article and cannot seem to grasp the reason that you’re still reading through it. That’s okay too!

It may not be the emotional response I was attempting to gain but it is an emotional response, nonetheless. Are you starting to see the beauty of it yet!? Regardless of the WAY your writing moves someone — it moves them. That’s the kicker!

Of course, there will be some that disregard your writing all together, that is a given. The same could be said about your sales pitch at work, your proposal to court someone you like or your request to your child to eat vegetables. Not everyone is going to like what you do or what you have to offer. The goal is to connect with the ones that do!
