Every decision we make in life has consequences. What we say, what we do and how we act can have a direct effect on us and our future.
We forget this minor detail of life in the heat of the moment because we aren't thinking about the future every second of every day.
Which is completely normal.
We are wondering what show we're going to binge watch on Netflix, we are trying to figure out the best fashion choices for our day and we're counting calories.
We're not fixated on our mental state or how our decisions may affect said mental state.
To be honest, that would become quite exhausting over time.
So, how do we keep our future mentality in mind without always having it on our mind?
Be mindful: Take a moment before saying or doing something and ponder what affect it will have on you or others.
Be respectful regardless of the situation: You never know what others are going through and other people have no idea what you are going through. Rather than doing something that could mentally derail yourself or others, be polite, understanding and empathetic.
Don't say anything at all: I'm sure you remember when your parents used to tell you, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." - It's an accurate statement. Sometimes it's better just to zip our lips.
Whether it's through a romantic relationship, family, friendship or someone random on the street, everything decision you make can affect those around you. If you are the type of person who always puts themselves last. Remember those around you are affected if you don't take care of yourself.
It could affect them because your mood may change, it could affect them because you stink (if you don't keep good hygiene) and it could affect them if you don't pay your bills. It is not only you who suffers if you let yourself suffer.
