Silly Health Suggestions: Flush Your Toilet with the Lid Down

Sometimes we are presented with weird ways to stay happy and healthy in life.

You know the statements like…

An apple a day keeps the doctor away.

or

A glass of wine a day while pregnant is better for your health.

These are things that interest others but aren’t really 100% accurate, are they?

My new favorite suggestion for better health was something I read today on a blog… 18 Weird Health Tips That Actually Work Miraculously (healthspectra.com)

The first tip stated to…

Flush your toilet with the lid down.

It explained that scientists suggested to start flushing your toilet with the lid down to avoid bacteria from circulating through the air.

Okay… I’m 31 years old. I’ve been flushing my toilet with the seat up that entire time. You mean to tell me that it took me 31 years to realize my entire world of health can be aided by simply placing that toilet cover down before flushing?!

I’m sure there are some good points to doing this. However, there are also good points to never drinking a spirit drink on the weekends and not going 10 over the speed limit so I’m not late for work. That doesn’t mean I’m going to stop doing it.

In honor of that interesting health suggestion. I have come up with a few of my own for your viewing pleasure…

  1. Brush your teeth before and after meals: This will ensure you do not push old bacteria down into your gums from a previous meal while eating the new meal. Also… brush after drinking any pop. Pop can stay on your teeth for up to 20 minutes at a time, so brushing after you drink it (even a sip) is a good idea.

  2. Shower before sex: Yes, both of you and yes, every time. You have no idea the bacteria that your who-ha or appendage has accumulated throughout the course of the day. You don’t want to give any problem areas to your spouse, do you?

  3. Don’t wear your shoes into the house: All day long you walk outside, through public restrooms and on the icky ground. Everywhere you step could have bloodborne pathogens or overall deadly bacteria. If you wear your shoes into the home, you are tracking all of that unwanted crap inside. Leave your shoes at the door.

  4. Wash your food before you eat it: I’m sure you purchased it pre-packaged. Yet, do you know if the person who handled that food before it was packaged was careful? No, you don’t. So, to avoid unwanted bacteria, clean EVERYTHING before you eat it. If it’s fast food… it might make it soggy, but at least you won’t get sick.

  5. Purell after you touch anyone or anything: We’re all going to be like Sheldon Cooper before the year is up. Make sure to carry hand sanitizer with you wherever you go. In your car, your purse, your job, your pocket and your home. You never know what germs are lurking on anything or anyone you touch.

Now, I know that these seem a bit…. over the top… however, you can never be too careful.

That feeling you have of hilarious laughter after reading those suggestions is the same feeling I gained after reading about putting the toilet lid down to flush.

Yeah sure, it may be beneficial… but if it was really that bad for us… wouldn’t we have stopped or started doing those things years ago?
