It’s Not the 1950’s Anymore: It’s 2022 and Today, You Need to Work Together as Couples

Lifestyles have changed since the 1950's. It's no longer manageable for the husband to work and the wife to stay home, maintain the house, maintain the kids and prepare dinner.

In today's world, households need two incomes. Households need both parents to aid to the housecleaning and tending to the kids. Both parents need to be involved in every aspect of the family life.

These people who are placed back in the stone age wanting their spouse to be June Cleaver are a bit outdated.

It's not reasonable to lay so much on one person...

It used to be that the mother of the home was required to do this each day:

  • Get husbands clothing ready for work

  • Make coffee

  • Get the kids up in the morning

  • Make breakfast

  • Get the kids ready for school

  • Get the kids on the bus

  • Go to the grocery store

  • Clean the house

  • Prepare lunch for children who aren't school-aged.

  • Do the laundry

  • Exercise

  • Focus on finances

  • Get kids off the bus

  • Help kids with homework

  • Make dinner

  • Clean up after dinner

  • Get kids baths

  • Keep an active sex life to keep their spouse happy

  • Go to bed and do it again the next day

It sounds like a lot, doesn't it?

That's because it is. There are some that are able to maintain all of these things while working a full-time job or being a full-time student.

If this is you, Kudos! You're awesome! Keep doing what you're doing.

The reality is, that most people cannot maintain that much on their plate at once, even if they are not in school or employed. They need a helping hand through all of these daily needs. It's not because they are physically unable to perform these tasks, it's that these tasks can be mentally taxing, and some people do not have the mental capacity to take on such a large load of things at once.

If you are one of the people dealing with this, do not beat yourself up. Don't allow yourself to get overwhelmed. Know that there are others out there dealing with the same things you are and that we're all trying to make things work.

Talk to someone, connect with others through therapy groups or social media that share your stress and can give you tips on how to work through it.

There is always an ear to listen out there.

🧡Shine Bright, Kayla
