5 Helpful Steps to Surviving the Stress and Struggles of Life on This Circular Rock

Every day we are given hurdles to jump over.

Our car may run out of gas, our child may get sick at school, or our job may no longer see a need for us to be a part of their little family anymore.

Things we know CAN happen but never assume WILL happen…. happen to us all the time.

For most people, these things are dealt with and never thought of again. However, for others… this can create a mountain of devastation that falls on top of their entire way of life.

I like to think of myself as someone who always has the answers, who can get through anything with a little thought and who doesn’t get overwhelmed so easily.

That doesn’t mean that I am a stranger to stress and struggle.

On the contrary, I run into stressful situations just as much, if not more so, than the next person.

I try to deal with them the best I know how. I try to think positive and tell myself that this is just a steppingstone to something greater.

Well, most of the time.

Other times, I’m sitting in the corner of my bathroom with the door locked crying quietly, so my kids don’t know I’m spiraling.

To get myself out of those toxic tornadoes — I follow five simple steps that have served me well over the years.

Step One: Calm the Furq Down.

Yes, I said it. You are never going to get yourself together blubbering in the corner asking “Why Me?” — You need to dust yourself off, wipe your tears, throw on some makeup and get ready to seize the day by the horns.

Step Two: Take A Stand.

No matter what you’re facing, you need to stand tall with your head held high. Tell yourself you can do this and that you will do whatever you have to do to make things work in your favor. Don’t accept failure with a smile. Turn it into a new path on your direction to resolving your issue.

Step Three: Gather your Ingredients.

Just like when you are baking a cake; there are key ingredients you need when solving a problem. Maybe you need to make some phone calls, do some research and call-in reinforcements. Get on it guys! There isn’t a moment to waste when you’re in the trenches.

Step Four: Don’t Give Up.

If everyone always knelt down at the first sign of defeat, then no one would ever get anywhere. Sure, you may run into issues, and yeah, it’s probably not going to be smooth sailing throughout the process, but that my friends… is life. Grit your teeth, smile and push forward. You can do this.

Step Five: Praise Yourself.

When you finally reach the top of the hole you were dug into, give yourself the props you deserve for getting through. You congratulate you child for getting a good grade on a paper, right? And I’m sure you took your spouse out for a celebratory dinner when they got their promotion, didn’t you? Why should you be any different. Get yourself a gift, take a personal care day or go out with some friends and celebrate the fact that you, once again, got through a struggle without falling apart.

We're not superheroes. We were not created by someone in a fantasy book.

We. Are. Human.

We are going to mess up, we are going to make bad decsions and we are going to run into problems during our lives upon this circular rock.

What matters is how we get through those issues and push forward.

Give yourself a break.

You're doing fine.

🧡Shine Bright, Kayla
